PS the fact that you think the Air Force runs our 18 Ohio Class subs is pretty funny. Even though 4 are technically SLGNs they are still Boomers to me. I really don’t care what you think about that to be honest. The Harpoons on the SLGNs carry an impressive thermonuclear package in their own right.

wrapping it up -
I never said I was in the Air Force (I was in the Navy though)

I never claimed to be providing exact confidential info regarding our thermonuclear weapons to humor you (but I was trained and qualified to deliver them.)

my argument really had little to do with how our Triad is outfitted because it changes constantly. I’m sure it is different now considering Putins nuclear threats and I doubt START II is going to influence what the deployed packages are at this point in time.

In any event, it is sufficient (in terms of 10’s of megatons) to make a huge impression. That point escaped you from the beginning while you tried to solve a simple math problem and struggled with the concept of 8 * .48 Megaton warheads on a single Trident II missile can be objectively called “megaton class” in fact, I would put all hydrogen bombs in that class when you aggregate them and consider how many are “dial a yield”.

But, the big picture is pretty easy to argue to refute the premise of this thread at the beginning before you took it off into the weeds of irrelevancy.

You’re the one who was making the claim the warheads were megaton when they weren’t.

You continue to claim 475 is half of 1000. And you claim you trained on nukes?! I hope you were more precise….but I question that.

You claimed the individual warheads were in megatons…but they’re not in reality. I certainly hope in your training exercises when your officer called for a precise action to happen you didn’t say say it’s close enough.

We still only have 14 SSBNs….not the 19 you claimed Putin not withstanding. It’s really that simple. And there is a real difference between a SSBN and a SSGN. Your opinion is irrelevant on this issue.

Will the TRIAD remain the same? Probably not. But for this discussion we only have 14 SSBNs for that part of the TRIAD. And the subs carrying cruise missiles are classed as SSGN. Not SLGN.

I’m really questioning if you really served considering your errors in this discussion.

Your argument would have been accurate if you’d said the Ohios could unleash an attack that could be measured in megatons….depending on the option selected. Or it could be an attack measured in kilotons….again depending on the option.

But that wasn’t your initial argument now was it.

The tomahawks on the SSGNs carry nukes….you sure about that??
