ORYX is updating again. We should see a nice jump in tank kills as they work through the backlog.
Convoy SMASHED.
“The Ukrainian Army managed to destroy a Russian convoy on its way to supply Russian/LPR forces in Luhansk Oblast.”

“A Russian position with dozens of vehicles including tanks (T-72B3), BMPs, MT-LBs and at least one MTU-72 bridge layer was hit by Ukrainian artillery fire, destroying and damaging several vehicles.”

Beyond all the emotional gratification and satisfaction this carnage is generating, hopefully serious, experienced American military observers are noting how and why the Russians and their vehicles are taking such a pounding. Unless this is understood, the ramifications of the new technologies are appreciated and tactical adaptions made, an attacking American army could be vulnerable as well.
It should be noted that Armenian armor was decimated by Azerbaganis deploying drones. Now the Russian armor and Navy is withering from the new technology. Face it. The silicon chip has fundamentally changed warfare.
Meanwhile Russia has secured a land bridge to the Crimean peninsula and greatly reinforced its naval base.
Capturing Mariupol was a key goal for Russia for a few reasons, but, most critically, a victory in Mariupol gives Russia access an unobstructed land bridge from the Crimean peninsula it illegally annexed from Ukraine in 2014 to the Donbas region in southeastern Ukraine, potentially enabling easier troop mobilization into the Donbas that has become the focus of Russia's invasion.

It has done so, and the change is far from over.
Consider swarms of drones which all communicate with each other, do not need GPS, employ facial recognition, and operate independently for a few hours at a time.
So far, it is the limitation of battery tech and their ability to refuel and maintain themselves which is holding them back.
The drone stories are a lie to prop up their sales. Most of the damage in Karabakh was inflicted by the artillery. In Ukraine more Bayraktars were downed than they managed to hit stuff.
A total of 7 Bayraktar’s have been confirmed shot down. Ukraine still has the vast majority of its inventory.

FYI:
A few weeks back, ORYX split the RuZZian and Ukrainian losses into 2 separate files.
RuZZian: https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html
Ukrainian: https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-ukrainian.html
Confirmed by whom?:)
Russian armor: tanks, BMPs, other tracked and wheeled vehicles are being mostly destroyed by artillery fire - drones etc just add a bit more to the total.
Drones are not the huge game changer the press is making them out to be.
Neutral third parties.
No very minor - the area there has the sole source of fresh water for the Crimea - the Orcs do not want Ukraine in control of it; last time Ukraine was in control, they turned the water off, returning the naturally salty soil to salty again. Without that water source, northern Crimea is nearly uninhabitable.
Forbes is a poor source of information since it was sold to a Russian oligarch.
Probably a good idea to make the split part of the boilerplate.

••UA received ~220 T-72 tanks from Poland and Check Republic. Now being used in northern part of the Donbas Salient.
••152-mm DANA wheeled self-propelled howitzers from Check Republic
RM-70 rocket launcher systems are already serving the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
RM-70 MLRS were provided to Ukraine as part of military assistance from the Czech Republic which had provided 3 billion kroner (almost $128 million) in military assistance to Ukraine.

••All 90 M-777s deployed - more on the way.
••Meaningful heavy equipment on the pipeline: 12 PzH-2000 self-propelled tracked howitzers from Germany at end of June/early July; these are too few and only marginally better than Orc counter parts.
••UA heavy weapons inventory running low. UA Beverly lacking in weapons and ammo because the military factories were severely damaged or destroyed.
••Economy cannot be maintained when civilians have to use bicycles.
———————————————————————————————————————
••Quick Summary:
Almost everywhere Orc forces on static defence or continuing local tactical attacks.
The one exception is near Popasna where the situation is very dangerous for UA.
••General Topics
••1st big problem is Fuel supply
••Ukraine abandoned horrible regulating and setting prices for fuel. However, at this point, all negative forces were set in motion, and the situation (in terms of availability of fuel), is plain horrific - to the point of people switching to bicycles. Even sometimes military forces have their fuel rationed.
••All of that is the result of the Ukrainian government’s Economic Minister’s horrible, horrible decision to regulate fuel resale prices below wholesale. This communist idea killed all incentive for fuel wholesalers to supply fuel to Ukraine.
••The big problem is the wholesalers do not trust the government because the government could change back on a whim.
••While the Orcs have destroyed much Ukrainian infrastructure, it was survivable. The fuel situation might not be.
(Edit: The Economic Minister came from Russia as an aide to guy who ran for Parliament and won. After 3 years he returned to Russia, leaving the hot blond babe to run for Economic Minister. Many are convinced she was responsible for giving the names, country’s of origin and addresses of international volunteers to Russia, which made the list public. If she was not a Russian collaborator and spy, what she did with fuel prices may win the war for the Orcs.)
••2nd big problem is Ukrainian Military command
••3 days ago, Orc hit UA training camp north of Kyiv. It is the biggest and most important UA training camp. The hit the Baracks killing up to 100 trainees. End of March, rear units of the 79th brigade camp near Mykolaiv hit with another 100 dead, and still another hit near Lviv killed quite a few foreign volunteers.
••This is the 3rd time and should be clear to UA not to accumulate a lot of troops in one place. High command cannot seem to learn from ~300 troops killed.
(Edit: the difference between Orc High Command and their Ukrainian counterparts is mostly none.)
———————————————————————————————————————
Key areas:
- Izyum bridgehead - no changes.
- Lyman bridgehead - was split into two halves (Lyman+Svyatohirsk), no changes
- Bilogorivka bridgehead: destroyed - Popasna area: Russian troops captured villages Trypillya, Volodymyrivka to the west and north-west of Popasna; village Viktorivka north of Popasna
- Donetsk West: no changes
1. Kharkiv: Russian troops did local counter-attack and captured villages Lyptsi, Slobozhanske, and started fight for Borschova; they also attack village Ternova, but Ukrainian troops still control Ternova.
••North of Kharkiv in the Suma Region artillery by both sides. Area of tension.
••Orcs pushed UA back a few km south, Just to restore status quo - tactical position restoration.
2. Izyum bridgehead. It is extremely dangerous penetration by Russian troops that potentially could lead to large pocket for Ukrainian troops west of Donetsk. No changes today.
••Known Orc forces in area: ? /144 D, ? / 76th AD, 30, 6 TB / 47 TD, ? / 106 AD, 24 sfB, 7 TB / 90 TD.
••No designator means Brigade, D means Division, A means Airborne, m means Mechanized, sfB means special forces Brigade, T means tank, TD means Tank Division, TB means tank Brigade. ? means component unknown. / divides component from parent unit. 38, 23, 39, 21 fresh troops
••Will eventually make video explaining the unit structure and order of battle.
••UA known forces in area: 14, 81, 93, ?/ 25, 95, 9/3/79. Triple digit numbers mean Militia
3. Lyman bridgehead. split into two halves - Svyatohirsk and Lyman. No changes today.
••A retreat by the 79th from the city of Lyman is still possible, but will be disorderly with horrific losses and all of its equipment.
Severodonetsk Salient:
4. Popasna, Rubizhne and Severodonetsk. Russian troops captured all of Rubizhne. Russian mercenaries - Wagner Group operates in Popasna, also Russian 57 brigade operates there as well. Russian troops captured villages Trypillya, Volodymyrivka to the west and north-west of Popasna; village Viktorivka north of Popasna. Situation has deteriorated for Ukrainian side significantly and is on the edge.
••2 Army Core (4, 7, ?) made up of Ukrainian Luhansk separatists is putting pressure on Severodonetsk defense perimeter. 3rd rate troops no one cares if they are killed. Poorly equipped relative to regular Orc troops. They are there to distract UA from pulling troops south toward Popasna. They are doing suicidal attacks, all across the eastern part of the salient down to almost Popasna - charging UA bunkers, trenches, fighting positions much like WWI and dying.
••Orc capture Popasna and expanded north, east and north west. Now have captured several small towns and bypassed UA stronghold and continue to push weakened UA 24th back a considerable distance. Terminators in use - attacked north to envelop 24th. Looks very dangerous for UA plus is Airborne unit in area.
••Seems like total Orc break out of UA lines, but area too big for UA to successfully defend - UA 115 very light armed militia. 46 and 58 not used and could reinforce but not skilled enough to attack. Orc commander seem very skilled. UA may be forced to retreat from the whole area.
5. West of Donetsk: Avidyivka and Maryinka. Avdiyivaka - never ending attempts of the Russian side to break-through there. No changes 6. Vugledar is in Ukrainian hands. No changes today.
••Orcs taking heavy casualties charging UA lines.
Zaporizhya Salient:
7. Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole stretch of frontline. Ukrainian strongholds are towns of Gulyaypole and village of Velyka Novosilka. Russian 19D is operating there. Russian troops are consolidating their gains. Also, 42D has been spotted in the area. The most northern group of Russian troops has been stopped before village of Vilne Pole. Ukranian side brought its 128 brigade and regiment Azov Kyiv to stop Russian advance there.
8. Mariupol: process of surrender of Ukrainian defenders. About 2500 in total, out of which 400 wounded, 800 - Azov members. Other units represented: 36 brigade, 53, 54 brigades, 12 National Guard brigade, standalone battalion. As of morning of May 19, 2022, 1700+ Ukrainian soldiers surrendered. All three Ukrainian commanders (two from Azov and one from the 36th brigade) have not surrendered.
••Majority of Azov not surrendering. About 700 remaining. Next day is critical.
9. Kherson bridgehead: no changes.
••UA here happy that Orcs contained here. But cannot do offensive operations, like the rest of its military - UA military basically just a defensive military.
“The one exception is near Popasna where the situation is very dangerous for UA”
This does seem to be the worry point.
Drones are important in locating and pinpointing targets for artillery. Would not underestimate the punch of missile carrying or suicide drones. also would not be a good idea to transmit with a radio or even a cell phone with a listening drone overhead.
