I'll bet 95% want to emigrate from Shanghai. Are they still welded inside their apartments with little food?

George Will once advocated a planeload of passports to give them.

If I was under the rule of a satanic Winne the Pooh, I would emigrate too.

I know two people who wants to leave Hong Kong but are unable to. The husband is a US Army veteran (not an American citizen though), in information technology, and were active in the Hong Kong protests.

We have not heard from them for a while so we suspect the CCP has them under surveillance.

It’s time for these people to start fixing their problems in their own countries. Everyone running from communism, and now it’s in the U.S., and it’s on collapse.

Before the Ukrainian conflict a survey of Russians said that a huge percentage of the younger people wanted to immigrate. Even then the people saw little chance of bettering their lot in life if they stayed in Russia. When hostilities started many men of draft age fled the country. Russia (and China) have a huge demographic problem already. The economic drivers are people who are below the age of about forty. They are the ones who buy cars, houses, have kids, etc. Spend, spend spend. Xi was trying to transition the economy into one that depended on its own consumption, but there aren’t enough people to support the economy. In Germany they export 47 percent of their GDP. In the US it’s about three percent. (Depending on how you count it.)

So, having young people leave could spell doom.

The top three reasons for the consideration were for a better living environment (51 percent), to seek better education for their children (29 percent), and to obtain multiple foreign residence status and nationality (27 percent).

Why wasn't "Escaping the inhuman clutches of the rabid slogan-touting Chicoms" an option?

Hong Kong is a great example of what happens if the public doesn’t fight like hell on a massive scale when tyranny comes knocking on the door. Sure, they had their protest groups for a while, but they obediently dropped all of that and hid inside their homes when the all-too-convenient virus lockdowns began. And that was the last they saw of their freedoms.

We’re headed down the same road because not enough people are willing to risk their comfort and possessions, things that ironically they will lose anyway if tyranny prevails. We also have the illusion of elections that permits many to think that they can vote their way out of tyranny without actually having to fight for their freedom. Maybe that will work (Virginia), but I doubt it (2020).

N0 should be allowed into the US. Let them fix their own problems there. Or die trying.

Without going into some racial angle, Vancouver realized that they needed to limit rich Chinese from buying up their housing stock. US cities could have similar problems.

The really wealthy Hong Kong people saw the writing on the wall twenty years ago and started moving out. They still maintained ties to Hong Kong but many moved the majority of their assets to Singapore, Australia, the U.S., Canada, etc. Hong Kong was ceded back to China in 1997 with the agreement that they would be allowed to operate autonomously for fifty years. The Chinese weren't about to abide by that and started gradually getting their tentacles into Hong Kong government from the beginning. Even before the protests of a couple of years ago the Hong Kong government was controlled by CCP puppets. Carrie Lam, the outgoing Chief Executive, was nothing but a CCP puppet and the incoming guy is even more so.

Hong Kong is for all intents and purposes just another mainland Chinese communist city now.
