Insurance claims came in about every year for automobile damage. Mainly people blasting down the highway instead of stopping. Worst case was an auto had the paint stripped down to the metal and the windshield etched to white.
I was in a sandstorm when I was a kid, probably late 1950s. I remember a huge wall of brown cloud bearing down on the OK ranch house. I had no clue what it was. My grandmother got me in the house just before it hit us and for the rest of the day. I already knew to take cover from a tornado. After that day, I also knew to take cover from dust storms.
