We are witnessing a failed Presidency and all it’s consequences.
Everything is not about politics. Geology does not care about politics.
US oil is increasingly shale. Shale is “LTO”. Light Tight Oil. The tightness is low permeability requiring fracking to artificially create permeability, and light means API specification of density.
The lighter you are, the less middle distillate you will have (these are kerosene (jet fuel) and diesel).
As an example, an offshore production area/rig in the Gulf of Mexico is called Thunderhorse. It produces a few hundred thousand barrels of crude per day.
It has roughly 2X the diesel content per barrel than Bakken shale oil. It isn’t fracked. The GoM has good permeability rock.
The rock did not get designed per GOP or DNC desires. It doesn’t care about politics.
Bakken shale oil has an API of 43. The higher that number, the lower the density (the lighter it is). Thunderhorse is about 31.
US oil pumps 11.X million barrels/day. It has never been higher than 12.X in about 2019 and it was struggling to get that high then.
The US burns/consumes 21 mbpd. There was NEVER “energy independence” in the only thing that matters — oil. Those declarations of independence were contorted definitions involving natural gas liquids, condensates, outright nat gas and coal itself. You don’t carry food on a diesel powered truck to a grocery store shelf using coal. That other stuff is rather a lot less important than diesel.
So Biden obstructs production of US diesel? Maybe he does. The dirty little secret is that it does not matter. He could be the most super duper pro oil guy possible and it would not matter.
There is not enough and there is no answer.
“We are witnessing a failed Presidency and all it’s consequences.”
It’s not a failed presidency. It’s a failed usurpation.
We are witnessing a failed Presidency and all it’s consequences.
That we are, but I also see it as a failed populace. We have failed intellectually and morally as a people — THAT is the overriding issue.
