‘Ultra-MAGA’ longshot roars into contention in key Senate race

Kathy Barnette has been outspent 358-to-1 on TV in Pennsylvania’s GOP primary for the Senate. She hasn’t run for statewide office before. She doesn’t have former President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

But the ultra-MAGA commentator is surging in the polls anyway in the final weeks of one of the most expensive and closely watched races in the country.

Barnette’s unlikely — and, to some, unbelievable — rise has turned heads in political circles across the state because it defies political logic. Just two years ago, she lost a House bid in the Philadelphia suburbs by a wide margin. This time around, her opponents Mehmet Oz and David McCormick have spent $12.4 million and $11.4 million on television commercials, respectively, according to the ad-tracking firm AdImpact. Other candidates and outside groups have bankrolled $25 million more in spots. Oz has also won a highly sought-after nod from Trump.

Barnette, on the other hand, has spent a paltry $137,000 on TV.

“Barnette’s apparent rise is surprising just because of the lack of notoriety or resources compared to some of the other candidates in that race,” said Brian Nutt, a Pennsylvania-based Republican strategist who is not working for a candidate in the contest.

Barnette has a purist’s zeal, a compelling life story, and the ability to tell it to Republican grassroots voters. And, according to Republican strategists and officials across the state, Barnette is likely benefiting from a smashmouth primary that features Oz and McCormick going nuclear on each other on TV. GOP voters have been inundated with attack ads slamming Oz as a “RINO” and McCormick as a stooge for China, leading some to look for a third option.

Just consider what is happening. The Republican electorate (to Establishment horror) is not moving to their nice, safe candidates, that is, back to the left/middle. They're moving to alternative candidates to the RIGHT.

In Ohio, Rob Portman's preferred candidate (Jane Timken) came in FIFTH. And the alternative moderate candidate (since Timken was going nowhere) came in THIRD.

And now, in Pennsylvania (right next door, same electorate), if Republicans don't vote for Trump-endorsed Oz, are turning, not to Establishment McCormick, but to Kathy Barnette.

This is NOT how the Ruling Oligarchy expected things to go. Their influence is fading fast.

Primary is May 17th.

Hopefully she’ll be the Rich Strike of this race.

And a nice touch would be for her to bite one of the other candidates after the win too....

So you….and others here…….are saying……over and over again……like, multiple times …..to ignore Trump…..what does he know.

It’s getting old, folks and suspicious!
This is, at least, the 2nd or third candidate a lot of you dismiss because Trump nominated him or her

Trump brought us to the dance and I, for one, refuse to change partners.

We do not blindly follow people. MAGA is a movement that is bigger than one man.

Trump has made horrible endorsements and staff picks. He is not infallible. He does not have some "4D Chess" strategy.

We disagree with him because Oz is not a constitutionalist, he is a celebrity and acquaintance of Trump.

Our job, as voters, is to think for ourselves and choose the candidate that best serves our ideology and interests....and that is Kathy Barnette.

We are the racist misogynist insurrectionists who are supporting a black woman that fights for the US Constitution.

Even if she gets the nomination, the GOPee won’t let her win. They would rather have a democRat win than allow a MAGA type into their exclusive club, the American House of Lords.

In Pennsylvania his preferred candidate had to drop out, so he had to choose an alternative candidate to get behind. He wanted to stop Establishment McCormick so he got behind Oz, likely because he didn’t think Barnette could win in November.

But she’s clearly got staying power.

So the people will decide next Tuesday.

I would wager that the democrats are behind this nonsense. They would love to see her win, as no way she’ll win the big election.

If Oz was not running, I’m sure Trump would be supporting Kathy.

I looked quickly in the article and didn’t see the numbers.

If you know Soros is paying the others to root for the most conservative candidate, let me know, since I feel I should get paid too.

You wrongly assume it is anyone but Trump’s endorsement. Faulty logic. I love Trump but he does calculate in the odds of a candidate winning when making his endorsements, not just who is the most conservative.

Trump brought us to the dance...

Trump may have brought YOU to the dance, I was there long before he was. I'm glad he's also here, so don't get me wrong...

...but I seem to remember FReepers protesting outside of the Naval Observatory when Algore tried to steal the 2000 election. I seem to remember FReepers standing guard outside of the old Walter Reed on Georgia Avenue in defense of wounded veterans. I seem to remember FReepers taking leading roles in the Tea Party protests trying to save the country from Obama and the Dems (and causing an overturn of both houses of Congress in 2010). Maybe you can refresh my memory, but I don't seem to recall him at any of those things. I also don't seem to recall him at any of the pro-life Marches for Life, though there were lots and lots of us FReepers in attendence every single year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled he's at the party now, but we were there years and years before he even considered accepting the invitation, much less even putting his party clothes on and showing up.

I think that he endorses some people based on a calculation that they are most likely to win the general. I think his Oz endorsement is based on that to some degree.

I really don't care why Trump endorses who he endorses. I have my own theories.

But nobody does the thinking for me. I research the candidates myself and I make my own choice.

Nobody tells me who to vote for or who is "electable". I make that choice.

Years of "going along" with what the party leaders and personalities tell us is why we have a swamp in DC today.

I respectfully disagree.

Trump is new to politics and yet his political history is littered with backstabbers and traitors.

This whole issue with him picking 0z is concerning (to say the least).

I am voting for the conservative in the PA primary. Thats Barnette.

IF by some chance 0z wins the nomination I will hold my nose and vote for him.

But the primaries are where we need to advance conservative leaders and values.

“Like Mastriano, Barnette has made false statements about voter fraud in 2020.”
.........

I see the Ministry of Truth is working hard against Mastriano and Barnette.

I respectfully disagree as well. I don’t think people are dismissing Oz because Trump nominated him, they just see a better alternative in Kathy Barnett. Were I in Pennsylvania I’d be voting for her as well, and I’m 100% MAGA.

Glenn beck had a Huge following including me. I drove 2000 miles round trip to see him.
We tossed him overboard when he attacked Trump. We the people shunned him because WE KNEW BETTER.
Same her for Kathy. TRumps wrong here.
