Solar is a prepaid energy supply, which is an additional incentive when high inflation is expected (and it is). So, when comparing the costs of solar with non-solar energy, this has to be factored in. And how much value would personal energy independence have if there is a grid collapse?

Glad you pointed out inflation of energy costs. Basically dollar savings per 100 kWh each year is more than the prior year because the cost per kWh the power company charges rises.

To be fair, the solar system degrades over time too. Not as fast as the inflation rate of power costs, but it is a factor.

Don’t forget metal roofs — needing no replacement. My already having a metal roof is one reason I installed solar.
