Most home apps use wifi, not your phone service. If you are away from home, you can use phone service to access your home network to control devices. That works fine on 4G.

Yes. The guy I mentioned (that I know, btw, not just some yahoo talking to me on the internet) ran it all via his phone providing the wifi. Unlimited phone cell network data > hotspot > wifi > home devices. Said it saved him a boatload of money.
