There are likely some dual citizen, ethnic Afghans who chose to live there. As for “ordinary” Americans stuck in Afghanistan, they are about as evident as Bigfoot, as far as I can tell.

There is a distinction between American born and bred citizens, and ethnic Afghans who acquired secondary American citizenship by accommodation or chance. Both categories of citizen deserve protection and assistance by the US, but not with the same level of concern. Almost all of those American citizens who tarried or stayed in Afghanistan were of the latter category and did so as matter of choice because they regard Afghanistan as their home and wanted to see how things would work out under the Taliban. Now they are stuck in a country ruled by Islamic crazies. Getting them out will be tough.
Yes, it appears that we are talking about dual citizens who are Afghans. Frankly I’m OK with them staying in Afghanistan permanently.
