Upping his war with the Walt Disney Co., Gov. Ron DeSantis said he is expanding the special session of the Legislature that started Tuesday to consider eliminating the Reedy Creek Improvement District that governs much of Walt Disney World.
He also said he would seek to eliminate the special carve out Disney received from the Legislature for the so-called Big Tech law that would allow people to sue social media companies such as Facebook or Twitter if they are censored. That law has been blocked by a federal judge.
“I am announcing today that we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering this week,” DeSantis said in The Villages. “And so yes, they will be considering their congressional map. But they also will be considering termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968. And that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District.”
DeSantis thanked House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson for “stepping up and making sure that we make the sunset or the termination on those special districts happen, which I think is very important.”

Who started the “war” ?
Disney has stepped on a landmine called DeSantis. Actually it’s about time Disney had their special status revoked. It’s not like they are going to move
Disney; they forgot that they are not bigger than the State of Florida.
It’s not like they are going to move
Or, they could move, and that would really be just fine. They could take their show back to California. Or Paris , or even China.
It happens with the woke. After-all, the CDC and Fauci thought they were authorized to mandate masks on Federal travelers, they weren't.
It happens with the woke
It happens when woke sheep let them, too.
I don’t know the history of the Reedy Creek district, but, I’m thinking it was created, as an inducement for Disney to locate in Florida in the first place.
Man, this is what you do. You go on offensive and stay there. Take note you thumb sucking RINOs.
As I remember from my days interning in the Florida Legislature, Florida has “Sunset” rules where old departments and regulations are supposed to be reviewed and shelved if they have outlived their usefulness.
It is time to Sunset the Reedy Creek district.
It’s about time a republican does something like this.
That’s not thumbs those RINOS are sucking!
Conservatives used to believe big business/fortune 500 was their friend - and decades ago, it was true.
Now big-business is NOT free enterprise - its woke, politicized crony capitalism.
Go to war with them.
“I don’t know the history of the Reedy Creek district, but, I’m thinking it was created, as an inducement for Disney to locate in Florida in the first place.”
That is exactly what it was.
The state wanted the original wholesome Disney concept; not what it has become.
Florida has not left Disney; Disney has left Florida.
It was. 50 years ago.
He doesn't do anything half-assed. From Wikipedia:
"Born in Jacksonville, DeSantis spent most of his childhood in Dunedin, Florida. He graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School. DeSantis joined the United States Navy in 2004, where he was promoted to lieutenant before serving as an advisor to SEAL Team One and being deployed to Iraq in 2007. When he returned to the U.S. a year later, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed DeSantis to serve as an assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida, a position he held until his honorable discharge in 2010." Also earned the Bronze Star.
It should be revoked no matter. Disney’s economic status was completely different 50 years ago and I am quite sure the special status enabled them to become profitable. They should pay property taxes like everyone else!
When you double down on wokeness vis-a-vis this governor he will double you over and nail your fingers to the deck.- -m3
