Putin and Xi… twin brothers of different mothers.

Pushing Russia into the arms of China might go down as one of the dumber geopolitical mistakes of the last 30 years.

LOL. You probably missed most of the Cold War. And up until now they were more of rivals than allies.

This happened before the invasion, or the western response to it. So there's no argument anyone "pushed" Putin to China.

As for "dumbest geopolitical mistakes of the last 30 years", Putin himself owns that spot. He's single-handedly reinvigorated NATO, encouraged the Germans to rearm, and led both Finland and Sweden to reverse over 70 years of independence and seek to join NATO. That is an absolute catastrophe for Russia.

More importantly, the linchpin of Soviet/Russian foreign policy for the last century has been keeping one foot each in the West and in the East. Play Europe off against China, etc., while keeping both options open at all times.

Putin's invasion has completely trashed that geopolitical strategy by destroying Russia's relationship with the West. Russia is now isolated and dependent upon the vastly more powerful and wealthy China because that is now his only option remaining. Now, and for the foreseeable future, Russia will be China's bitch. And that is a complete geopolitical disaster for Russia.

It’s been decades since the fall of Soviet Union, this isn’t all because of Putin.

Does anyone else think Western corporations should start investing more at home and in India? Seems like having most of our eggs in the Chinese basket is not such a good idea.

A year or so ago India set aside an area the size of Luxembourg for industrial development. Why so few takers?

The invasion of Ukraine, reinvigoration of NATO, rearmament of Germany, Finland and Sweden joining NATO, the destruction of Russia's balancing between West and East, and now complete dependence on the CCP is entirely on Putin. Not a single one of those things would have happened had he not chosen to start this war with Ukraine. And he could easily have chosen that route.

But his ego wouldn't let him, so Russia's geopolitical strategy for the last 100 years - and actually going all the way back to Peter the Great - is now in shambles. Because of Vladimir Putin.

Well done, you idiot.

The problems started years before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Absolutely. The eye shape is the only difference between the two.

Ironic that the two countries that were the biggest enemies of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan during WWII are now our enemies.

The Neo Cons boxed themselves in. Overplayed their hand and fell victim to the green energy flank. The neocons, the folks you see daily on CNN and MSNBC and FOX, set the world up for what’s currently playing out on the geopolitical stage.

They popped the cork and the genie they released from the bottle will plunge the world into a recession. Stock up.....

Not a single one of those things would have happened had he not chosen to start this war with Ukraine...

And that isn't all. I've got a neighbor who's been traumatized by the war - since the invasion began, he's spent all day and most of the night, combing the internet for the latest 'news', and worrying about all of the reports of Russian atrocities. Saw him outside last week, smoking a cigarette, and he looked terrible; nerves, missed meals, and lack of sleep I guess. I told him, "Buddy, you need to take a break from the internet and get some sleep!" He made some kind of reply (only word I caught was "Putin") and went back inside.

A few nights ago, he was up after midnight (as usual), and needed a smoke. Because it was cool outside, he stepped into his garage and lit up; shortly after that, something happened - the firefighters who talked to him later couldn't get a 100% coherent explanation, but apparently it involved the cigarette, some old cleaning rags, and some auto parts he had started soaking in degreaser back in February.

Anyway, his garage, house and life are now in shambles - all because of Vladimir Putin. Every time I drive past that house, I think, "Well done, you idiot."

Which of those things I listed would be happening right now if Putin had not invaded Ukraine?

It's all on him.

So, when exactly do people or nations lose all responsibility for their own decision making and actions?

Western sanctions are driving Russia into China’s dark embrace and accelerating the conversion of Russia into a subsidiary of China.
