Vanguard Just Became the Largest Twitter (TWTR) Stock Holder. Here’s Why.

The firm recently purchased an additional 12 million shares of TWTR

Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) is in full focus today after Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk announced an offer to buy the social media platform for $54.20 per share. Oddly enough, shares of TWTR stock closed the day down 1.7%. This is likely because Musk’s offer may not come to fruition. Currently, Twitter is reportedly weighing a “poison pill” option that may discourage Musk from acquiring the company. A poison pill provision effectively makes an acquisition less attractive by allowing existing shareholders to purchase shares at less than market value. On top of this news, Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal — a large shareholder of the company — voiced his disapproval of the acquisition.

Prior to all this Twitter drama, however, one investment firm with over $6.67 trillion in assets under management (AUM) reported increasing its existing TWTR position. Let’s jump into the details.

Musk is smoking out the real owners of Twitter, who the public mostly weren’t aware of.

Excellent.

What happens if Musk bans twitter from his internet satellites?

Usually yes and sometimes for a certain period of time. They can always just run a campaign to vote no for existing members to same effect

Wait until Vanguard’s shares tank if Musk’s offer is rejected and decides to
sell his shares. Vanguard will be left holding the bag.
I love it.

I am a member. I word that loosely, because in all the years I have been one I have posted comments maybe, 10x or less. I have people and organizations that I follow, some are Right Wing, some aren’t. I use Twitter merely to gather information. As long as I don’t post anything inflammatory, I’m pretty sure I won’t get banned. No sense in arguing with those liberal idiots, anyway. It helps keep the stress down🙂.
I look at it as an information platform, nothing more.

I think I got turned off to the social media idea years ago as a member of America Online. There they had chat rooms. I hosted a Civil War room, and a Genealogy room once a week. Got tired of dealing with the public, and left AOL. I’ve never been much of a socializer to begin with. Now that I’m 74, I have no interest in it. FR has been my home for 23 years, and it’s more than enough for me. I tried Parler when it came out, then it got kicked off the internet. I then tried Gab thinking Trump might end up there, and then Gettr. I rarely used them, and deleted them all in February.

I am pretty much the same as you.
I am 70 years old and have seen it all before...
I visit FR a few time per day just to
scan through the articles and see what is going on.
No twitter, no facebook, none of that stuff.
No TV or radio news at all.
I’d rather sit outside and listen to the birds sing.

I had AOL too. Aside from getting me online, all I used it for was web surfing.
The Web would be so boring w/out FreeRepublic. I’ve been here since the early 2000’s under a different name. Somehow I got knocked off (not kicked off), didn’t do anything about it, but lurked for a lot of years. Than I retired a couple years ago, and was finally able to get back on, but with a different name.
Glad to be back with my favorite people in the world, my blood family, and my FreeRepublic family.

They are increasing their position in anticipation of the company being in play and a higher bid, The Street is looking now for $60 to $65 Bid. Another player may well end up in the bidding. If this happens expect this company to go for $60 to $65 Billion, but it has no assets to sell to reduce debt that will be taken on.

“Musk would be better off unloading all his shares and crushing their stock value”

that might be his Plan B if his takeover fails ...

I haven’t watch cable news since Obama got elected in 2008. Fox was the only network I watched once it became available here. Then I got sick of seeing and hearing Obama every day, so I turned it off, and haven’t been back. I don’t watch podcasts, or any other programs on the internet either. Found FR on The Drudge Report when the Clintons were in the White House. It was originally accessed via a link titled “Whitewater Files.” I keep FR open all day, and regularly reload it for new posts, and to see if I have any pings. I read a lot too. Try to read every day. I usually have 3 hardback/paperback books I read in the afternoons, then switch to my Kindle at bedtime. I love history, and always have at least one or two in the pile I’m reading. I don’t care for current events/political books.

“I wonder if all of these people are buying the shares a lower price to turn around and make a profit by selling them to Musk?.”

nice little arbitrage strategy ... a guaranteed few dollars a share is nothing to sneeze at ...

When I was working, I worked the 3-11 shift, so I was never home to watch prime-time cable news. In 2000 when Fox News called Florida for Gore before the polls closed in the Panhandle, I got pissed, and turned them off. Turned them back on, on 9/11, and continued watching on and off until Obama got elected. I couldn’t stand seeing his face on Fox News everyday so I turned it off, and never went back. I don’t watch any news programs on cable, or the internet. FR has been my go-to place to catch up on what’s going on in the world. I’ve been retired since 2003.

That brings up an interesting question from me. If all these people are banned from Twitter... why don’t they just move?! I only get on ebay and youtube because I sell stuff and watch rock videos. If they banned me, I’d tell ‘em to eff off and go to a different site!

Before I deleted my accounts on Parler, Gab and Gettr, a lot of those people kicked off Twitter showed up on all three of them, but of course they never got the number of followers that they had on Twitter.

Its rarely up to common stock holders.... What they have say in is very very limited... preferred stock holders hold the power, generally.
