I suspect there is no legitimate COVID reason to lock Shanghai down.

Quit buying Chinese made items.

Then the problem goes away.

I know easier said than done.

I suspect there is no legitimate COVID reason to lock Shanghai down.

Even average Chinese now suspect this is political - its widely believed the "anti-Xi Jinping" group within the CCP have their political-base in Shanghai.

Moreover, life is "normal" (or as normal as possible) in other cities. Trains, plains, cars, etc... running normally between other cities. People ask - how is it other major cities have nearly zero "cases," while somehow just the borders of Shanghai there are tens of thousands? China social media is also seemingly allowing posts that are against Shanghai government management - while shutting down any other anti-CCP or "covid conspiracy" posts.

What’s happening in Shanghai is dystopian out of a movie type of situation, 25 million people locked into their homes, all their pets being killed, starving over what ??

Part of me wishes this goes on for awhile, they are starting to fight back in Shanghai, 25 million people can overcome any army considering they are starving to death, they are willing to fight for food if nothing else.

The problem is that even products “Made in the USA” often have component parts made in China. Yet have no fear. The transport of fentanyl will not be interrupted.

Put up really high tariffs and bring all manufacturing home. All of it.

“I suspect there is no legitimate COVID reason to lock Shanghai down.”
I suspect that there is a reason, but someone pulled the trigger too soon.
The USA looks a lot like Rome, a Republic with an occasional emperor running the show as they see fit. Rome at a time of it’s peak, powerful, but with significant social and economic issues that easily crumbled it.
Somebody thought history will repeat itself.
That may be.
But we have a Constitution. One we follow so closely that we allow cheaters to be put into power and cannot correct it until the next elections.
That maybe is what saves the USA, unless we allow the courts to dream up new rights and laws not explicitly written in that Constitution, from their tea leaves.

Chinese crisis actor FEAR PORN for American media consumption which will then trigger lockdowns in U.S. and thousands upon thousands of fraudulent mail-in ballots COUNTED in the U.S. midterm election.

You got that right.
In the past I have actively attempted just that.....it’s pretty much impossible.

The quality of chinese products sucks.

This is indeed the opening act of the next Chinese Civil War. The (largely corrupt) Jiang Zemin-era capitalists of Shanghai and Guangzhou/Shenzhen have determined that Xi and his retrograde Maoist purity movement must go, at all costs.

Many strange headlines are going to start coming out of China, that will have nothing to do with the actual situation on the ground.

--- "the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) strengthened its control of public opinion in China, seeking to further crackdown...." Given that the idiot Left and uncritical "moderates" cheered lockdowns the last time around in the US, I think this is simply ugly, destructive theater for public consumption in the West.

CCP to Europe and the US --- "Cases! Cases! Cases! Lock down again like we're doing. See! Zero Covid! Test! Test! Test! Be like us! Come on! Monkey see, monkey do."

After all, look at all our hazmat suits and masks. Panic! We need to sell more junk PPE stuff to you! Test! Test! Test!

And whatever you do, DO NOT look at today's Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center's page on China's reported deaths. (Spoiler alert: 13,465)

Prepper ping - Supply Chain interrupted in Shanghai (China)

" Rerouting freight to avoid the extended lockdown in Shanghai, where daily confirmed COVID cases topped a record 17,000 this week, is becoming more difficult and expensive
as cargo facilities in other Chinese cities become overcrowded, logistics companies and carriers warn.
The logistics challenges for ocean and airfreight in Shanghai are extreme."

" More than 90% of truck capacity is out of service.
Trucks are prevented from moving in and out of the city without a special permit, which is only valid for 24 hours and only on specific routes...
Most warehouses in the city are closed. Pactl, the large airport cargo terminal operator, only has skeleton operations."

"Limited truck access to Shanghai port terminals is causing shipping containers to pile up and slowing ship transfers.
Seko said its team in Shanghai has seen an 80% decrease in container pickups from outside the lockdown area because of driver shortages and restrictions, with drivers requiring a special pass and negative COVID test results. "

I have done it when shopping for clothing.
That does not mean I bought clothing made in the USA. However, I bought Wrangler jeans made in Ol Mexico instead of Levis. Hanes underware made in the Dominican Republic.

The tough thing is power tools. They are almost all made in China now. I think only Dewalt makes some here.

True that. I decided to repair my 1990 Stihl chainsaw when I blew the piston in May 2021. The local Stihl guy convinced me because he said my saw was better than the same model today.

It took 9 months to get the piston and rings delivered to the local shop here in NH. Who knows where that part came from. The original saw was made in Germany.
