Why Are We Still Talking About Single Payer?

I've got to admit, I was a bit surprised when the 3/25 edition of The Daily Skirmish hit my Inbox. Apparently, despite every bureaucratic abuse we've seen at the hands of our health care system over the last two years of Two Weeks To FlattenThe Curve TM. The Radical Left is continuing their unrelenting efforts to destroy America's health care system. It's just disturbing how many examples there are:

Of course, when the legislative date rape known as Obamacare was forced into the American people, one Leftist even let slip that the bill was about control, not health. While nothing should surprise me anymore, I was genuinely surprised that anyone who has been even remotely paying attention for the last two years would think that Single Payer would in any way, shape, or form appeal to any Normals.

The government’s behavior during Covid should be a wake-up call for anyone who supported single payer in the past.

Unfortunately, many will never see the light and will accept authoritarianism.

All Canadian provinces have single payer systems I believe.

England, Scotland and Wales have single payer systems.

Most of the people living in these places like their systems.

“will accept authoritarianism”

It would cost me about $3,000 to buy print copies of all the regulations that govern building construction in my part of Florida, a state with a Republican governor and legislature.

England is not single payer. In England the National Health Service (NHS) is part of the government. Doctors and nurses are government employees.

I believe they also have private doctors, but going there is not covered by your taxes.

Canadians like their health care until they have to wait forever to get treated. Because the premiums aren't high enough, there is insufficient supply of health care, and so Canadians either wait until it's too late for a cure, or else get care somewhere else at full cost.

Single Payer is a monopsony, i.e. a single buyer rather than a single producer (i.e. monopoly).

For a while Walmart was a monopsony in that if you had a product, then it had to be sold through Walmart if you wanted to get huge sales. And because you had to sell it through Walmart, you had to abide by Walmart's idea of how much to charge for it. If this price required you to have it made offshore, then so be it. That's how Walmart got its pro-China/anti-Made-in-the-USA reputation.

If a medical system is a monopsony, then they will decide what gets covered and what doesn't. Maybe in order to keep premiums low and to be "woke" they will support gender transitioning, but if you're beyond a certain age and need a knee or hip replacement, well then tough toenails you don't get it.

Government control of healthcare is a keystone of the Communist Manifesto.

And it will never get smaller.
