“Georgians are in Ukraine fighting against Russia. For Ukraine. They would be highly offended to be considered a proxy of Russia.”

It has been reported that there are also Georgians fighting for Russia and against Ukraine. Makes sense, when you consider that Russia presently occupies about 20% of Georgia (for instance, South Ossetia), so Russia can “recruit” from some of the locals, who are pro-Russia and hostile to Georgia. Tribal fights are so...nasty.

A lot of things have been reported. You are talking about Abkhazians fighting for Russia. They really are not Georgians, though they used to be.

Most have Russian passports and consider themselves independent. Kinda like Donbas.

I guarantee you - no Georgian is going to fight for Russia.
I have lots of friends there and love it there. They hate Russia and Putin.

South Ossetia had very few Georgians, and those were just on the border. They are a unique people. I think considered Persian originally. They are Ossetians, neither Russian or Georgian. Their culture is very unique - an unusual kind of pagan thing.

In Georgia itself there are Orthodox churches and monasteries from the fifth century. South Ossetia has none.
They have always been kind of their own people. And they prefer Russia, though I believe they are kind of like a welfare group for Russia.
