I do remember that. I always wondered why THAT was a significant issue but other and much more unconscionable Liberal malfeasance was not, and still is not.
I often cite Whittaker Chambers’ book “Witness” as a work that was very influential in my thinking, and one of the reasons was, that in reading it, I wholly recognized the politics of personal destruction as practiced by the Left back in the late Forties and early Fifties. The was buttressed for me in reading probably the second most influential book for me, “Blacklisted by History” about the McCarthy era.
The Truman Administration and The Department of Justice, in close conjunction and cooperation with the Media, conspired to construct a narrative to bring Whittaker Chambers down to protect the Democrat Party, which was complicit in the Communist infestation of the US Government.
Soviet tactics, like the ones we see today. Trying to portray Chambers as mentally ill. Saying he was a homosexual, and had fantasies about having homosexual relations with his dead brother who had committed suicide.
For real, not making this up.
Then, what they did with McCarthy. Portraying him as a drug addict. An alcoholic. A homosexual. All their favorite slanders.
I had seen what they did to Nixon in real time. Then saw it again with Reagan. And, in the age of the Internet, watched it all on Steroids with Trump.
It is what they do.
