Trying to provide alternative perspectives on the status of the conflict in Ukraine, Aaron Mate of the Greyzone asks Col. Macgregor his take on the dominant narrative in the US that militarily this is a disaster for Russia. Col. Macgregor outlines that western media has a specific narrative diminishing reality and filled with wishful thinking...

Whoa. Well stated.
Anyone who follows the Russian military has seen tons of evidence of Russian Demise.
Just look at the Russian Aircraft Carrier fiascos in the last few years. The stupid missle launch that went crazy. Their largest Dry Dock sinking. Ammunition depot’s self destructing time after time. Just one major thing after another. It makes the Three Stooges look competent.
They couldn’t hide this as their navy has self destructed. I wouldn’t be surprised if they launched a nuke and it hit Moscow.
You can’t believe it was only the Navy that suffered this way.
My take: Russia said they’re willing to settle for Luhansk and Donetsk, with assurances that Ukraine doesn’t go to NATO. I think that’s ultimately what they wanted. I think that’s what they’ll get. What the West needs to decide is whether they want (A) an endless war in Ukraine eventually grinding into a frozen state, (B) to risk nuclear war and actually liberate Ukraine, or (C) to settle with Russia and risk being a bunch of Neville Chamberlains. Unfortunately, my expectation is that they’ll pick (A). The smart, creative people of the world need to figure out how to safely choose (C). Failing that, they need to consider (B), keeping in mind that the fallout will land on Russia.
I find the fact that they beat China in their CommieWorld Tank Olympics to be comforting.
I don’t think Joe would be going over there next week if the outlines of a deal aren’t already in place. Zelensky will have to eat whatever is put on his plate.
He’ll take the money - maybe make Hunter a top adviser (con$ultant).
There are negotiated rules when you play war.
Well, I always thought the Russians had a rather unconvincing military system lately. They were much better at introducing new prototypes than making them in significant numbers. Most of their vaunted hordes simply weren’t there. They had a very small intervention force in Syria.
And from what we have seen in Ukraine, my own take was spot on.
Why does this matter? Simply put, if the Russians were to try an attack on NATO it matters how good they are at war. As far as we can tell from the test of combat, and the revelation of what they are trying to fight with, NATO equipment, including what ex-Soviet stuff the Poles and Czechs and etc. have been upgrading for the last thirty years, is perfectly adequate to meet them in the field. And that NATO’s peacetime armies of summer soldiers are likely to do fairly well against the Russians own army of summer soldiers.
Warm water ports, Reconstituting the Soviet Union, Natural Gas, Neon, Oil, Nuclear Power Plants, other rare minerals.
They will fall far short.
Of course we do. It's the war we have been fighting from the time of the Korean War.
Low ranking officer and surrender monkey. Macgregor was the top planner for General Wesley Clark, Butcher of Belgrade. Was good that his carer was ended by the Army, forcing him to leave in ‘04.
Macgregor is refusing to acknowledge that Russia’s conventional military was not quite the juggernaut that that was once so feared by many. If it were not for the Russian Navy being virtually unhindered landing troops and supplies from the Black Sea, the Russian invasion would have collapsed.
Colonel MacGregor has for years been appearing on Russian state tv to denounce the United States and NATO and to support Russian military ambitions.
Recently, I’ve heard him say that we “cannot afford” to increase our defense budget. He predicts military losses in any confrontations with enemies.
There is nothing in Colonel MacGregor’s approach that should appeal to conservatives.
Come back when it’s over and we’ll see who was right.
Well, two advantages that the Russians have over the Chinese are:
a) The Russians have actually fought people besides the peaceful Tibetans since the end of WWII, so they actually have some combat veterans.
b) The Russian culture doesn’t completely crush individual initiative like the Chinese hivemind, so they can still think flexibly from time to time.
Endless war = endless appropriations.
He was spectacularly wrong from the start and now just doubles down. Ignore.
When I see the name Col. Douglas Macgregor, I don’t even have to read further, I already know that he believes Ukraine is a lost cause and will eventually be overtaken by the Russkies.
He said so time and again even at the beginning of the invasion.
More to add to your summary.
Actually , he did address that part , a week ago on fox , amazingly enough, he gave a pretty good explanation of the equipment roll out.
