That is indeed the excuse; it’s just maybe a few people who might have seen an episode or two about WW2 Germany on Brit TV’s “World At War” series. Maybe 4 or 5 crazy people - they are almost impossible to even find.

Whether they were true or not is irrelevant to the discussion. The discussion was if there was any Russian involvement; and, of course, there was. Not the Russian government, but a Russian citizen (and arguably another Russian citizen, who denied involvement, or cooperated with the authorities). Danchenko was arrested for lying to federal investigators.
