Wait ‘til you have to pay a monthly fee to the vehicle manufacturer for the wheel lock key.
So why can’t some of the doofuses holding hearings ask her to elaborate on her views on incarceration in America? Who should be incarcerated? Who should not and why? What system would better protect the public from being victimized by criminals? She can dodge the questions, but if she answers them, Senators can find either vote No, or own the consequences.
Back in the mid-70s, I was stationed in Oahu and I, being a show-off, owned a brand-new Datsun 280Z with aluminum mag wheels - and wheel locks.
I stopped along the coast near Makaha for lunch as I was returning from the pistol range. I happened to catch an odd motion coming from my car where it was parked, so I stood up and saw two big Hawaiian guys hiding behind the car, shaking the wheels to loosen up the wheel locks.
I opened my briefcase and took out my competition .45 and chambered a round and walked out of the restaurant.
The two big Hawaiians saw me coming and stood, looking like they were going to beat the hell out of me but their expressions changed when they saw the Colt. They said “Hey, man - we’re just admiring your wheels”while grinning widely and quickly left
60-70 years ago they weren’t stealing wheels. They were stealing hub-caps.
Recently in a Minneapolis suburb a 17 year old was apprehended driving a stolen car. In trying to get away from the police he rammed two police cars destroying the stolen car and one police car and severely damaging another police vehicle. While he tried to flee on foot he was apprehended. Police found a gun in his possession. He was charged with multiple felonies including weapons charges and probably caused several hundred thousands of dollars in damage to three vehicles. He was sentenced to 6 days of house arrest with an ankle bracelet and was to attend some feel good classes with social workers. I am certain this upstanding young man will quickly be committing more crimes likely including car jacking. None of these vehicle protection devices would have made any difference.
Minnesota is a concealed carry state. Perhaps an armed citizen responding to the teenage thug brandishing a weapon to steal their vehicle were met with lethal force it might be a better deterrent to these car jacking and vehicle theft crimes.
