I’m 100 times more concerned about the security situation of malls and bus stations in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Detroit, than I am about the ones in Moscow.

I wonder how many of those nukes Ukraine had after the breakup of the Soviet Union slipped through the UN inspectors audits. I can see an attack by Russia being followed up with a nuke going off in downtown Moscow. Conspiracy theory? Of course.

I was in Moscow about 5 years ago. We were walking thru downtown areas at 11:30 pm. Felt very safe. I did not see any people who looked threatening at all.
I think it is difficult for Americans to visualize what it is like there now. We still tend to think of it as a Soviet Country.

To be honest I think most Americans have a very cartoon like image of Russia. Virtually all of Western media portray Russia in very dark ‘Boris and Natasha’ tones. Every Russian businessman is an oligarch, every beautiful Russian woman a former sex slave out for revenge.. etc, etc, ad nauseum...
Moscow and St. Petersburg are very modern.
The rest of the country is still pretty backwoods.
Let's face it, most Americans have a very cartoon like image of the rest of the world, period. Our schools do a piss-poor job of teaching students about the world.
