Putin is making it abundantly clear that Russia will not tolerated a hostile military alliance on the borders of its heartland. However repugnant the moral absurdity of neutralism may be, the Ukrainians can defuse this situation by adopting the Swiss model of foreign relations or Biden can announce that Ukraine will never be a NATO member. Sadly death and destruction seems to be the way this nonsense will be settled.
Appeasement by any other word, is still appeasement.
We tried that in the late 30s. It fails.
Russia is weakened, there is no good reason to give them anything. If they invade they grow even weaker.
