I think he chose people not knowing how bad the Deep State truly was. He wasn't a Deep State guy, and he trusted people too much.

I hope and pray when he wins again that he brings in a whole new crew of people.

Where would he find “the whole new group of people”? Pretty much everyone working for him betrayed him at some point (Pence, etc)…
