Your are correct, Jim McIngvale is always the 1st to help those in need. Hurricane Harvey hit Houston hard! Jim McIngvale Opened the kitchen at his store to feed the hungry for free. He told those in need of shelter to come sleep in his store on his furniture! Many things he does are not known, but he alway helps those in need.
Self or business promotion, yes, generosity, no. Real generosity is done out of love, as discretely as possible, so that beyond the recipient, God alone knows... it isn’t calculated. But, this is good for his business as a form of advertisement and he and his customers enjoy it. It is a better biz practice than paying off politicians to pass legislation making business more difficult for competitors. Now if he is the guy who opened his store to hurricane refugees then that was generous.
I think you can only deduct gambling losses against gambling winnings, but not against other income.
Mattress Mack is a Houston treasure. Not a selfish bone in his body. Whenever there is a need in the city, he is the first one to step up to the plate to help.
He loves people and loves the city of Houston. Started his business with next to nothing. He would wear a mattress costume between rounds during weekly wrestling nights, and grew his huge business from there. A great rags to riches story. Treats his people very well with some being with him for well over 20 years.
Anyone betting on the fixed games of the NFL deserves to lose their money.
As another poster pointed out, gambling losses can be deducted only against gambling winnings. If you lose more than you win, the excess losses can't be deducted from non-gambling income.
300% is not a huge markup in retail trade.
Ironic. A Mattress owner loses his fortune despite his team covering the spread?
Yeah, he should have bet the point spread instead of odds.
