I would rather pull out my own vent out than remove a catheter.
I have had a catheter taken out twice in the last 2 weeks. I cannot fathom pulling it out without removing the liquid in the balloon.
In terms of discomfort and pain, i imagine you are right. Do you speak from personal experience?

There is a cuff on the end of both of those devices.
The Endotracheal Tube (Used to Intubate) once in place a 10cc syringe filled with air inflates the cuff at the end to help hold it in place.
Not pretty pulling that out without deflating the cuff, but can be done.
The Urinary Cath, that has an expanding cuff to help hold it in place.
Pulling that out without closing the cuff can result in harm.
I can’t even imagine……..
After my second hip replacement surgery I woke up in the recovery room and saw the most beautiful young nurse. The first thing she said to me was .. "Let me get that cath..."
It felt like a bolt of lightning had hit me in the pelvis!
