Top Union Pacific official blasts far-left policies over 'spiraling crisis' of rail theft, threatens to leave Los Angeles

" Criminals are caught and arrested, turned over to local authorities for booking, arraigned before the local courts, charges are reduced to a misdemeanor or petty offense, and the criminal is released after paying a nominal fine. These individuals are generally caught and released back onto the streets in less than twenty-four hours. Even with all the arrests made, the no-cash bail policy and extended timeframe for suspects to appear in court is causing re-victimization to UP by these same criminals. In fact, criminals boast to our officers that charges will be pled down to simple trespassing – which bears no serious consequence. Without any judicial deterrence or consequence, it is no surprise that over the past year UP has witnessed the significant increase in criminal rail theft described above."

Union Pacific isn't the only company furious at the situation.

"According to Guerrero, UPS and FedEx, which utilize Union Pacific's rail services, are seeking to divert their business away from Los Angeles County — and Union Pacific may join them."

If California Democrats follow their usual pattern, they’ll express delight that he’s going to leave, and announce plans to build a California-run railroad to replace it. Of course, this will be followed by a series of huge demands for federal financing from the Brandon administration.

Or did they already do that, I forget.

If only they’d get that high speed rail project working, then theft could really swing into high speed.

High Speed Theft...sounds like a new video game.

All of these shipments are insured against various risks - ship sinking, terrorism, act of God, etc...

What do the insurance companies have to say?

In this particular case it would be Hank Riordan and Dagney Taggart who would be leaving.

Railroads used to have their own police and one screwed with them at your own peril.

One of my earliest memories was going with my Dad to the "rail police" station to pick up my oldest brother. He and his friends, when they were in their early teens, would hop freight trains and "see where it would take them." They usually got off at wherever the train stopped next, but once they rode a train from near Philadelphia, all the way to Pittsburgh. I guess it was an express train....

Yes, that was many years ago. He eventually turned into a productive citizen....

Diverting rail traffic isn’t cheap. I recall hearing in 1980 that when the Air Force launches from Vandenberg, they pay Union Pacific two-million dollars a day in compensation for diverted rail traffic. What would it cost to abandon Los Angeles terminals as well as rails?

It's not the railroad bulls, it's the local prosecutors, who would probably prosecute the cops if any harm should befall po' widdle D'Shawn in the course of an arrest.

Too bad the UP Police have to turn the crooks over to the LA County Prosecutors.

Sometimes I miss cops being able to hand out the occasional well deserved hickory shampoo.

The reason democrat hellhole cities in democrat blue hellhole states do this 'dump the criminals back on the streets bit insanity' is it keeps city crime rates LOOKING low so they can attract new businesses. Then people in LA and other liberal states pretend they're not living in a hellhole.

If this Top Union Pacific official is smart enough to see what's happening he's smart enough to move his family to Florida.
