NO. I carry a well equipped bug-out bag instead.

Purchase a dedicated GPS receiver of high quality. They do get map updates, and they even work in places where there are no roads. There are also Iridium-based devices that can call for help even when you are in a region with no cell service.

I won’t get rid of my Motorola V60s from around 2000. Of course, it doesn’t work, but I liked it so much I just hold on to it.

Being unreachable except by land line is very nice.

Download Waze for your maps. It’s far better than Google maps. And switch to Brave private browser. It’s rated as very secure.

Thanks, but Google owns Waze now....

The problem seems to be that the browser default page is now Google. Will have to see If that can be changed.

First off, I like to have full control and even though I had checked prior to purchasing to make sure I could unlock the bootloader, apparently the version I ended up with could not be unlocked. Therefore I couldn’t root it and that’s a dealbreaker for me.

Secondly, the way it felt in my hand was awful. I’m a big guy with giant hands, but that phone was a weird size that I couldn’t use one-handed at all without almost dropping it. The weight distribution was weird.

Not giant complaints for most people, but when you’re paying $900+ for a phone, you don’t want to feel like you regret the purchase.

Dedicated GPS really is a great idea. Everyone is so accustomed to having everything in your hands. That’s how cellphones became pagers, voicemail, calendars, pedometers, weather stations, cameras, videos, entertainment, social media connections, house security monitors.

It is supposed to work as a cellphone. All of that connectivity includes tracking.

I bought an iphone 12, cash, and i hate it. The technology updates using Face ID and removing easy screenshots give me regrets.

Purchased a custom wood leather case and for it, otherwise it would be gone.

Dedicated GPS receivers do not have transmitters.

Fora while there people who work at the shipyard in certain areas of the shipyard were not allowed to have anything but a flip phone without a camera. And around Tidewater Virginia they were readily available but I haven’t really looked lately.

“Do you have emergency vehicle phone?”

Warning: this was applicable, probably still is. Women’s shelter’s receive used cell phones for just this purpose
**********

By law phones that are no longer being actively used can still be used for 911 emergency calls.

If you don’t want a phone with all the bells and whistles and costs involved pick up somebody else’s used/old phone or maybe one that you have laying around, recharge it, and keep it in your car, that way if there is an emergency you can still dial 911 even though you do not have a phone company subscription.
