DIRECTV Announces They Are Cancelling OAN News Because of The Network Political Alignment
Last Refuge ^ | 1/14/2022

The remarkable aspect to this announcement is the openness of DirecTV’s admission. Following on the heels of the demand from the White House to start blocking content against the interests of the Biden administration, DirecTV the satellite television communication company now part of the AT&T network, has announced their decision to drop the One America News Network (OANN) channel because OAN is perceived to be supportive of Donald Trump.

(Bloomberg) – DirecTV, one of the largest U.S. pay-TV providers, plans to drop One America News Network, dealing a major blow to the conservative channel that’s been criticized for spreading misinformation and had a loyal fan in former President Donald Trump.

The satellite-TV provider has notified OAN’s owner, Herring Networks Inc., that it plans to stop carrying the company’s two channels when their contract expires. Herring Networks also owns AWE, a lifestyle channel that stands for “A Wealth of Entertainment.”

“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” the company said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News.

DirecTV’s contract with Herring Networks expires in early April, according to a person familiar with the matter. Herring Networks didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Given the fact that Joe Biden only holds support of somewhere around 30% of the country, this move by AT&T/DirecTV is quite remarkable.

One would think that someone in the corporate boardroom, perhaps someone associated with the best business decision, would give pause to any consideration of kowtowing to the demands of cancel culture.

Alas, it seems that voice was not present, or at least insignificant to the objectives of the corporate decisionmakers.

Any corporation making politics the central point of their business intent is automatically reducing the potential audience by half. There must be a strongly declining business model for the satellite broadcasting industry as a whole in order to make such a decision.

Perhaps the subscription-based entertainment and news alternatives have eroded the baseline for the TV business. I genuinely do not know. However, on its face, this type of a corporate decision seems like financial suicide.

Even DirecTV customers who may not watch OAN, yet retain some reasonable disposition to see a slippery slope as it becomes evident, are likely to view this decision negatively.

Regardless of the internal or background conversation, one thing is certain, DirecTV will lose more customers than it will gain. That is just a predictable outcome whenever you make political affiliation a litmus for a product.

We had Direct TV from 2005- most of 2020. Now we stream.
This just adds to knowing we made the right decision to drop them.

The headline is very misleading. If you read the actual article (yeah, I know...), DirecTV's announcement said nothing about OAN's political affiliation or support of Donald trump. The statement just isn't there.

Maybe that really is the reason, but that would be an assumption/inference, not an admission from DirectTV as the headline states.

“If they eliminated it because it is political, they must eliminate CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, etc.”

Why?

PSA: you can get Tucker’s show for free on Pandora if that’s what’s keeping you from canceling cable.

Dish would make a huge amount of money if they picked up OANN right now.

One wonders if Biden demanded censorship of OAN or did DirecTV send Biden a letter demanding he request censorship of OAN. Like with the wokenazi school boards, hard to know what’s the dog and what’s the tail... we just know they’re in cahoots and are fearful of any who depart the “official” narrative.

The wokenazis know 1% Truth can destroy 100% lie.

If freedom loving Americans would collectively boycott these tyrannical censoring organizations they could affect change but most are on the fence enjoying their bread and circus. This so called freedom loving website is full of folks that will be glued to the boob tube on Super Bowl Sunday cheering on millionaires who crap on our flag and those who shed blood to defend it.

If you can get internet over a wire, you don’t need DirecTV.

Well, that's the thing. Everyone brags about cutting cable or satellite but you still need the Internet to power your Roku, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire. And that Internet is still controlled by AT&T, Comcast, or Spectrum.

“Oan must not be getting the traffic on directtv so...”

This is the problem with satellite TV and especially now with cable. They know what you’re watching !!!!

If you use off the air TV with an antenna, old-school, nobody knows what you watch or do.

If you use a Smart TV on the internet, the tracking happens period. You can be watching antenna TV off-the-air and your Smart TV software uses the internet to report back to Nielsen ratings outfit, what you watch, and when.

Disable the backdoor and big brother in a Smart TV. You can do that with the menues and there is probably youtube videos on how to block the backdoors into your Smart TV.

Wise up America — it’s almost amerika

“I am canceling cable even ...”

Probably today cable is so entrenched that many folks live in developments where HOA rules prohibit off-the-air antennas.

If you can’t mount an antenna most folks are forced into the TV with the big brother attachments.
