"The Food and Drug Administration said it will stop regulating French dressing after keeping a tight rein on its key ingredients since 1950.

The US agency announced on Wednesday that it would lift guidelines that required manufacturers to sell a product with 35% vegetable oil if it wanted to market it as “French dressing.”

French dressing also had been required to contain vinegar or lemon or lime juice. Other ingredients like salt, tomato paste, and spices were permitted, but not required. ..."

Thank you Xoe Xiden, this has been a long time coming...said nobody sane ever. Typical leftist priorities, ‘fixing’ problems nobody has.

Ketchup, mayo and pickles must be regulated if mixed together! Or is that Thousand Island? I always get confused. The one with pickles is better.

What’s the FDA’s position on tartare sauce?

I read about this coming maybe two years ago. I wish it had not been changed. Somebody had too much down time on their shift and thought this up to make them seem important.
I predict French Dressing as most of us know it to be will return. Who cares how authentic it is? What next, going back to Freedom Fried potatoes? Faux Vanilla ice cream?

Well, they seem to have regulated it to death. I can’t remember the last time I saw French dressing on a menu. Way to go, FDA. You killed a few more jobs.

Well, they've already debased our currency as far as would go, so I guess I don't care if they now debase our salad dressings.

I suppose that, American salad dressing being the world's reserve condiment, we can "get away" with doing that.

Regards,

I can understand FDA regulations to prevent food borne illness. I can even understand FDA regulations to prevent adulteration (calling something crab meat, when it is only partially crab meat) or preventing false advertising (calling “fresh squeezed” orange juice that is really concentrated orange juice and water.

I have read the debates on egg-less mayonnaise being banned for a time.

Regulating something like French Dressing ingredients is kind of like defining what makes SPAM or Velveeta cheese. Nobody really cares or will be harmed as long as the ingredients are displayed on the bottle so those with allergies will not be harmed.

What to do? Hopefully, there is still some type of dressing regulated by the FDA or I will have eat my yearly salad undressed.

I’ve got Spam and Velveeta in my prepper supply.

Several Spam but only one Velveeta.

As you can tell, I’m a gourmet chef. 😜

👨‍🍳👨‍🍳👨‍🍳

Hmmm, fried Spam with melted Velveeta...
......

I’ve got Rotel too, but it has the lime kick.

Funny because I live French dressing and it has many variations. Creamy to spicy. Now I wonder if Outback calls their VERY hot Tangy Tomato that name because it violates the rules by 1 iota.

A few years ago there was the Great Almond Debate. Now, Bobs your uncle, almond juice can be sold as milk.
Milk comes from cows NOT almonds.
