At WakeMed and UNC hospitals, 100% of COVID-19 patients on ventilators are unvaccinated, they said. At all WakeMed hospitals, only 1 in 10 ICU patients are fully vaccinated, and at Duke, all the patients on ECMO, a form of life support used for only the sickest patients, are unvaccinated.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought ventilators greatly increased the risk of pneumonia, and triggering bigger issues.
There is so much disinformation out there. I am not a doctor, but have had experience with end of life issues.
It is very hard to listen to people give opinions who have no idea what they are talking about. It must be even harder if you are a doctor in a hospital dealing with Covid patients, and then be accused of trying to kill these very same patients.
I think if putting a patient on a ventilator is the only way to get the patient oxygenated, then the patient is intubated. Deal with the complications later.
I can hear the conversation now…
“Gee, doc, if we put him on a ventilator he will have pneumonia later. . Nurse, if we don’t put him on a vent now he will die now”
I wouldn’t say it’s “very hard;” it’s just annoying.
Just like having to read arrogant, condescending or supercilious comments can be annoying.
I mostly just swat them away like a pesky mosquito.
Interesting how this news contradicts what is happening in Israel and other highly “vaccinated countries”.
Did they take the jabs? Remember you can take the jabs, it not be considered vaccinated for 2 weeks or between jabs 1 and 2.

I have heard the same from doctors in other parts of the country - COVID cases in ICU are overwhelmingly unvaccinated.
The few vaccinated are fat and old.
How many of the “unvaccinated” that are on ventilators were given remdesivir by the hospital?

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t have a vaccine that is very effective in preventing serious illness AND STILL have a public health emergency. Alternately, if you have a vaccine that is very effective in preventing serious illness, then those individuals who can’t or won’t take the vaccine have a problem, not the rest of us.
