Just as Russia is a sovereign country so is Ukraine, there is no East or West about it. This is the same game being played with Jerusalem, the old “I want that so I’ll call it East something or other to justify my attempt to take it.” Further proof that no matter how many times Putin does the right thing, he always reverts to this.

Putin speaks out

Before the Maidan in 2014, Moscow was happy to work closely with all Ukrainian governments and had no plan to take any action in Crimea However, this changed when a democratically elected leader was overthrown, the Russian president said on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists at his annual end-of-year press conference at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow, Putin said he would have continued working closely with Ukrainian partners if there hadn’t been a “bloody coup d’etat,” in which people were “killed and burned.”

The current tension between Russia and Ukraine began following the events of the 2014 Maidan, when violent street protests toppled a democratically elected government Shortly after the uprising in Kiev, Crimea was reabsorbed into Russia following a referendum. The vast majority of the world considers the vote illegitimate and views the peninsula as illegally occupied by Moscow.

The president said: Before the Maidan, reabsorbing Crimea was not even on the cards:
“How could we say no to Sevastopol and Crimea, to the people who live there? How could we not take them under our protection, under our wing? Impossible. We were put in a situation where we could not do otherwise.”

Putin told his annual press conference today that the U.S. had “tricked” Russia over NATO expansion and that it had to end, reports

Russian President Vladimir Putin today told his annual year-end press conference that peace is up to the U.S. after Washington agreed this week to negotiate in January with Moscow on Russian demands to resolve tension over Ukraine.

“Our actions will depend not on the course of negotiations, but on the unconditional guarantees of Russian national security,” Putin said. “We made it clear that NATO’s expansion to the east is unacceptable. The U.S. is on our doorstep with its missiles. How would Americans react if we placed our missiles at the US. border with Canada or Mexico?”

We have no business there. Except for our “President” and his son having made illegal millions of bucks grifting there.

Whatever intelligence Putin has on the completely-corrupt Bidens he should release post-haste. I’m sure the world will be aghast.

“Damn, the little bugger is correct. We did place missiles on his border. We did cause this.”

Is the current Russian government perfect, no they’re not.
However, they’re a lot more pragmatic than the Marxist ideologues that ruled between 1922-1991.

I blame the “lavender lad fags” in our State Department. They wave their woke ideology everywhere, while doing nothing about any diplomatic initiative. They can’t negotiate a treaty with the Russian government and never will.

The Ideology of the Current Government of the United States is:

1) Woke Ideology

2) Unconditional Surrender for our Great Power Enemies(Russia & China), no matter the cost.

Its a bad combination for the people of the USA.

Before the Maidan in 2014... this changed when a democratically elected leader was overthrown,

This is Putin propaganda. Why is there no mention of the free and fair elections in Ukraine afterwards in 2014 and 2019?

As to the BS "coup" accusation, Ukrainian President Yanukovitch was elected promising to join the EU. As soon as he was elected he announced Ukraine was going to join the Russian CIS. He also passed "dictatorship laws"(trying to set himself up as a dictator) and had 400 protesters brutally beaten. Almost a million people came out to protest in Ukraine's capitol of Kyiv. After the protests became violent with 100 protesters shot and killed by the police, Pres. Yanukovitch fled the country with billions. The Ukrainian parliament which stayed in office, voted him out. Free elections occurred soon after. This action was a "coup" according to Putin and not the will of the people. Ukrainians want to join the EU not some Russian dominated Asian trading bloc.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians gather on Kyiv's Independence Square to Oppose Closer Ties to Russia("Maidan Nezalezhnosti') in December 2013.

What missiles on Russia's border? Poland will get 2 Patriot missile batteries in 2022. That's the big threat to Putin? Currently the US has 167 troops in Poland, 132 troops in Romania, and 77 troops in Hungary. NATO is a purely defensive organization, which does not have the will or the means to invade Russia. Former soviet bloc countries joined NATO as a defense against bullying or aggression/invasion by Putin. Exactly what Putin is doing to Ukraine with threats of further invasion if he does not get his way.

Putin is doing a little “Art of the Deal” here.

I believe that Putin would agree with a deal where he respects NATO’s current setup, in exchange for a proclamation that Ukraine will never be allowed to be a member of NATO.

You do know we already have that arrangement with regards to Austria, as a condition for the Soviets leaving their sector in 1955.

Count me in. I’ve been prepping most of my adult life and what fun is it when I can’t use my supplies and skills (and fancy military-looking clothes!) when the world is at peace? So, hopefully we get into a nuclear war and I can show off to my neighbors just how STUPID they were to not prep!

So let’s have at it! I watched those WW2 movies, life was FUN back then - we need more of it!!!

I'm sure Putin will agree to that, but its a death knell to Ukrainian independence. Putin will line up the invasion force for the next demand: Russian as an official language in Ukraine, Federalization of each province, with its own independent military/police, etc. Ukraine has had 7 years of war with 500,000 former combat veterans who will never accept this deal. No surprise if weak Biden agrees to it.

The Russians are no angels here with their occupation of Crimea and support for rebels in Donbas. How about this as a deal: No NATO for Ukraine in return for Russian withdrawal from Crimea and returning Donbas to Ukrainian sovereignty. Security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine.

I think truly Putin only wants the East as a buffer, and will allow Kiev to remain independent, as long as they are “neutral”.

Now, what could happen is you might see Western Ukraine, the parts that historically were more associated with Poland and Austria-Hungary, actually desire independence from Kiev, essentially breaking up Ukraine into three parts.

Yep, Putin is the one instigating the nationalist card in Ukraine. This is the same game play when the Soviets allied with the Nazis, euphemistically called “Germano-Soviet” pact when it really was the Nazi-Soviet pact

Putin doesn't want Ukrainian neutrality, he wants a vassal state. There is no movement in Ukraine for a breakup of Ukraine. Since 2014, Ukraine lost Crimea and the more Russian parts on Donbas and Luhansk resulting in a more unified, Ukrainian population.
