At minimum he is the right age that his grade school years would have been spent in the Hitlerjugend, aka Nazi Youth.
The fact that daddy was actually an integral part of the fascist state is far more explanatory of his attitudes, and his educational history.

That was my thought when I read it.
My father saw a group of Nazi Youth caught pilfering GI tents where they were living near Munich (and Dachau).
They got to noticing thing disappear and left a guard in the tent to find the culprit. They found Nazi Youth, they were surviving alone after the adults were long gone, they collected them all up and sent them to some facility.
Dad told me those youth were so brainwashed he doubted they would ever be deprogrammed.
They were living in Switzerland. But they were German.
And his mother had a well hidden secret family Jewish history. Schwab apparently hates that part of his heritage. As a Nazi heir he feels shamed by it. Like Reinhard Heydrich or Hitler.
Some of the worst nazis killing Jews as fast as they could had a deep self hatred of their own heritage.
