It does seem weird that the US is the only country where professional teams have drafts.

Oddly, it's our pro sports that practice "equity", this draft thing apparently is so they get some sort of organized shot at perceived equity. Poorer financial team don't suffer from being outbid and poorer quality teams get first choice. Do they have payroll caps in Europe?

And in soccer if you suck, you get relegated, you don’t get rewarded with a top draft pick.

So the Detroit Lions would be in the “Fourth Division” if the NFL worked like English soccer, LOL!
