Something of beauty to shine against these dark times.

Beautiful. Thanks for posting it.
Happy to do it. Audio quality isn’t great, but that’s what good systems are for. Had to go and throw this on the master rig. Glorious...
Learned about her from Two Set Violin channel. They did some fun videos with her.
Thank you for that. I’m only familiar with a little of Sibelius’work. This was stirring. Some parts reminded me of Felix Mendelssohn’s most famous violin concerto in E Minor.
The delicate fury of dialog in the beginning.
Other areas carried a somewhat Slavic or Gypsy sound to me.
Something Chopin may have composed.
Now I know this exists.
I’ll have to check that out. She’s an American prodigy, for those who don’t know.
“1905?”
The year it was composed.
The last movement has been likened to “polar bears dancing in the snow.”
Trivia: there is another 20th century masterwork in d minor, op. 47 - Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony
I had not heard that, but I like it. My only gripe with the Telefunken CD is that it’s a tad bright, but that’s been a Telefunken signature since ever I can remember, even on their LPs of which I have a decent collection. My system mercilessly reveals such things. At 70 though, I don’t notice it as much.
Correction: the CD edition is DG, or Deutsche Gramophon. I plead covid brain fog. They also tend to run a bit bright.
No nice hair or t$t$ but i think better.

Sibelius...
The composer for people who actually need a reason to completely give up all hope for their lives.
Yep. This piece is, in my opinion, heavy with a beautiful Gypsy or Romani influence (even though Sibelius was not said to have been influenced by such).
Sibelius was one of the first non-mainstream composers I listened to in my teens. I’ve loved his work ever since.
Hillary is the best fiddle player I’ve ever seen. A national treasure.
The Rach 3 is a 20th century d minor masterwork, technically speaking (1909).
You probably don’t like Nielsen, either.
I abandon all hope on the issue of classical music beginning around 1850.
However, I did have an enjoyable relationship with a very pretty Assistant Professor of Music that lasted until 1990.
