The things I missed out on as a kid! We did field trips to a local dairy barn to watch cows getting milked and to local geological sites to look at glacial striations in the rocks and look for trilobites. We missed out entirely on observing the colorful local fauna.
If this is true, what possible educational experience does this offer?
Why not a trip to the zoo or a museum?

Just taking kids into a bar is bad enough and without their parents could be illegal in some places. A queer bar is even worse.
