One of the first thingsd I was taught about firearms is that you never trust anothere persons word about whether or not they are loaded. When you take possession of a firearm, the first thing you do is check to see if it is loaded or not.

A gun shop I frequent has a policy of keeping any ammo they discover in a customer's gun if he or she claims it's "not loaded".
Scene: Customer hands a gun to an employee, saying "It's not loaded"
- Employee checks the gun and discovers it has ammo. He takes the ammo out and examines the gun.
- Employee hands the gun back to the customer, now empty of all ammo.
- Customer: "Hey! Can I have my ammo back?"
- Employee: "No, you said it wasn't loaded."
