We have a Walmart in a high immigrant neighbourhood here and I noticed they have “Lot Cop,” in the parking lots. They are a mobile, solar-powered security system that’s supposed to catch any illegal action on camera like shoplifters wheeling out 60 inch TVs, or kids just riding bikes from sporting goods straight out the front door. They also post photos of habitual shoplifters right on the entrance door and it’s not exactly a wall of diversity. Another Walmart 15 miles away in an established white neighbourhood has no Lot Cops

When they built our Wal-Mart they set it up so it was easy to restrict access - so thieves who made it to their cars might still be unable to exit the lot. Even if they could get onto the public road, they were on a peninsula which required them to escape east to Jersey City or west to Newark across bridges.
