I was thinking the same, his anti-Trump rant bought him leniency.
Exactly!
Their putting him in the brig helped.
That’s way lighter than I assumed.
Bannon had Bernie Kerik — who helped out Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher and is helping in this case — on the show this morning. They were talking about the hearing this morning where the presiding judge stated flat-out that he had never had anyone before his court with the distinguished record of Lt. Col. Scheller.
Really, they don’t need any more attention to the complete historic, biblical failures that he pointed out
He has already talked about resigning his commission, so that probably was also taken into account.
Discharge to be decided
Scheller has yet to receive his characterization of discharge. As a part of the plea deal, he will likely receive either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. The characterization of discharge will be decided by the secretary of the Navy, the military judge said in court on Thursday.
If the secretary of the Navy decides to give Scheller a discharge below general under honorable conditions, Scheller will then want the characterization of discharge to be forwarded to a board of inquiry, which is made up of Marines who are superior to Scheller. Scheller said he would only ask for a board of inquiry if the secretary of the Navy gives Scheller a discharge outside of the two listed in the plea deal.
Scheller's characterization of discharge is significant because it will impact whether or not he receives other military benefits after resigning from the Marine Corps. If he receives an honorable discharge, he will be eligible for benefits, but if he receives any discharge less than that, he stands to lose some military benefits.
The comparison to Lt.Col. Vindman in treatment and media is day & night!
Is that typical? Impressive at any rate.
In resigning his commission with under 20 years served, he loses his pension and retirement benefits but he’s raised over $2.5 million so he’s going to be just fine.
He got off light because the sentencing judge agreed with what he said. Maybe.
This was most like his reward for denigrating Trump.
“Well, it could have been a lot worse. But I guess his criticism of Trump could be considered as a mitigating factor.”
Or perhaps the Marine rank and file told the deep state jags to cut the crap or suffer summary consequences.
Is it true that his wife left him over this?
That said I want to be clear, and this is my opinion formed from my childhood as a military dependent of a career naval officer, and a four year enlistment myself. I have always deeply believed in the concept of a chain of command.
I have studiously observed it as a civilian in my career, and it has never failed me. It is a concept that works best in a hierarchal relationship, as nearly all professional relationships are in some form.
I say all this to establish what I say here: While I believe that a formal chain of command that is observed by all is the best way to get good results, I have never in my life believed in following it blindly. I have always reserved the right to not observe it if there are moral issues involved.
And in this, while I believe in the Chain of Command and the forms that it should be observed religiously, there are times when a man has to stand up and be counted because NOT doing it would impart such rancid a moral stain on a man's soul that it could not be bourne in the remaining live of an honest man.
And because it is the RIGHT thing to do.
And that is why I support this man. I don't like it if he is or was a Leftist. I don't like it that he insulted and slandered a huge number of people who contributed generously to his defense and support.
But when an egregious wrong has been done, as was done in the pullout of Afghanistan leaving American citizens to fend for themselves, to provide the Taliban with a database of Afghanis who worked with us, to surrender a huge amount of valuable equipment, arms, and supplies to people who mean to do evil to us, and to facilitate the murderous and completely unnecessary slaughter of 13 American servicemen, all for political ends as feeble and stupid as those might be, well...
Yes. He has my support. So, while there is at least some to dislike and disapprove of in him, his public criticism of the incompetent and incredibly craven actions of "Perfumed Princes" who are a disgrace to their oaths they took as Commissioned Officers is not one of those things.
That THOSE people are going to get off scot free is a criminal travesty.
I think him and his family deserve our help....

And remember, the current WH intent is to:
1) Fire every service member who does not get vaxxed.
2) Restore the military draft, to include females.
Pretty light slap on the wrist. Now some GOP Governor should offer him an AGR slot in their state so he can finish his 20 and get his military pension and tricare for life.
Paging Governor DeSantis....
