It happens slowly. Then all at once,
If you think you need to start preparing for challenging times it is too late. At the very least get some extra cans of food each grocery trip and get a good water filter from a reputable company. And make all your decisions with the worst of winter you’re region will ever get.
Some other good resources.

Collapse? Do I smell a frog boiling?
A russian guy named Orlov wrote a number of very good books about this. books based on his personal experiences when the Soviet Union Collapsed.
He contrasts how he thinks Collapse will happen in the US and why.

Like a lot of people in TX probably wish they had done.
I wonder just how many of them took any proactive action after last winter to ensure a better outcome for themselves. Things like stocking up on food, buying a generator and gas cans, insulating the house and water pipes, getting a wood stove and cordwood, for example.
Bkmk
Well I certainly began last year when covid came along and been adding to my stash ever since. In fact weatherization items like plastic for the bedroom windows that were marked down, and things for my SUV. All purchased over the summer.
Now I just have to get things in place for the winter which this month is when I do most of that. Actually I should be ok for whatever winter brings with it. I do want to get another oil filled radiator heater though....I’ll get that this week.
It’s a good feel when you know you have everything needed to hunger down. And I’m one block from a gas station, walking distance, whenever I run out of milk or bread. So getting snowed in won’t be a problem.
All is good...thank God!

some patterns and principles are common to the way things unfold when it hits the fan."

Our generator hummed and our steaks sizzled, during the entire freeze :-)
Didn’t have to go out, for day, thanks to all of our preps. Kids were here, too.
Cranked up an old VHS player, for a movie break, with the grands, and all was great.
That’ll essentially be use come this winter if it’s as bad as they are forecasting.
OTOH, this is NH and the one nor’easter we experienced here, proved that folks around here are ready. The day after the power went out when you went outside, all you could hear in any directions was the roar of generators.
And the stores still had bottled water, batteries, and flashlights.
I haven’t share this in some time, but here is my Preparedness Manual I put together some time ago

I know media Fire is not the best host but its free. If anyone can suggest a better host let me know.
We doubled our firewood to 8 cords, all maple & ash and increased propane storage to 1400 gal. Next on the wishlist is a utility snowmobile.
Our stores sure seem to have been better prepared, with the essentials, the past several years, than previously.
I know shelves/items still clear out, but....not like they used to.
A lot more batteries, water, firewood, etc., in just about every kind of store.
Yep. And it doesn’t take much. A propane tank, some canned food, a portable heater, a camp stove, a couple five gallon jugs of water.... I live off grid in the snowy north. When the power goes out I am none the wiser. I have an old water cistern with food. When people think of “prepping” most think of the grizzled old loner when it really should be everyone with a few weeks of supplies.
