Violating the Chain of Command entails not following orders or executing orders of those not in the Chain of Command.
I can’t see it directly but maybe he was told to be silent and he disobeyed. Seems like charges were ‘lumped’ together to pad violations, make it look substantive.
I’m not condemning him because he has the right enemies. He threw away his career for a good cause. The Trump incident is noise and will be resolved in the years ahead if they don’t kill him first by an unfortunate accident.

He resigned his commission and the command refused it. They had an official gag order on him. He was under investigation for his remarks and it was progressing and he was ordered to stand down and he took to social media at his 1st opportunity. So they arrested him and threw him in the brig.
You are not allowed to be political in a uniform. He did so many times.
He was told to stop. He did not.
And yes, he was right. But if you have ever worked in a big organization, call out the bosses failures in public is a sure way to end your career and face consequences.
