There are lots of illnesses that kill 10 year olds... strep throat, meningitis, peanut allergies, diphtheria, tetanus, tuberculosis, and etc... Covid is not one of them. I think your strep throat guess is probably the most likely given the description in this story and the dozens of others if you do a search of the little girl's name. May she rest in peace.

BTW, a good friend of mine lost his granddaughter to the flu a couple of years ago. She was 11. I believe it’s being said that the flu is more of a danger to kids than COVID.
