“Millions of people worldwide proudly adore the prequels, warts, and all. They’re fun entertainment with no agenda, which is what movies should be.”
Ah... yeah, about that.. Apparently George Lucas blueskied the Phantom Menace around the same time the Republican Revolution occurred, and barely even tried to hide that he demonized conservatives with the Trade Federation (Nute Gunray being named after Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan, or Ray Gun, and that’s not even getting into how the Neimoidian senator was named after Chris Lott.). And let’s not forget George Lucas literally having Anakin and Obi Wan engage in the infamous “Only a Sith Deals in Absolutes” scene that barely even tries to hide the inspiration from George Bush’s “You’re either with us or the terrorists.” Also, George Lucas specifically modeled the Rebels, not to mention the Ewoks, after the Communist Vietcong and the Empire on us Americans. Even back during the Original Trilogy, it was meant to push an agenda.
Heck, Lucas himself has a very poor sense of discernment towards evil, considering he pretty much had Obi-Wan engaging in nihilistic stuff in ROTJ and ROTS, not to mention, you know, modeling the Rebels on the Vietcong.
Wimp? Don’t be silly, Disney’s CEO is a huge woke guy himself. He WANTED this to happen (then again, so did George Lucas, since he was the one who personally handpicked Kathleen Kennedy to succeed him).
I remember reading an article some time ago which pointed out the subliminal messages in Disney productions over the years including the Little Mermaid.
Whatever George intended got lost in the final cuts. Star Wars are mythic films. The politics of Episodes 1-6 are timeless. A person of any political persuasion can watch those movies and impose their own political views onto them. One could see it as the American colonists fighting the British Empire, the Allies against the Axis, The Vietnamese against the Capitalists. Or the rise of despotic, centralized Empires and the fall of Democratic Republics due to internal corruption.
Once an artist reveals his work to the public, it ceases to his alone. Art is both the creator and the observer.
yeah the ewoks was bad
i think its just an american thing that some people decide in order to be kid friendly/family friendly they need the foofy comedy relief
but it really messes up the flow of the story
and think how much better it could have been without the ewok comedy relief
broad generalization here:
first three movies- good, at least halfway thru jedi
second three, prequels - ok, somewhat boring/monotonic acting
third three - screw the fans, kill off the old male characters, push girl power/mary sue from nowhere, just make her a “skywalker” cuz we say so
The only way to enjoy the garbage movies after ‘ROTJ’ are with Mr. Plinket reviewing the film at Red Letter Media.
In all fairness, we also had people pointing out subliminal messages in America’s founding documents and even the Catholic Church (JesusIsSavior has quite a list of comparing us Catholics to Satanists, for example), so I don’t really place much stock in that bit. As far as The Little Mermaid is concerned, as far as I can tell, unless internal production documents of Ron and Clements boast that the movie was all about Communism and overthrowing the father or something left-wing like that, there’s no subliminal messaging in that movie. Star Wars even before Disney’s takeover definitely had subliminal messaging as Lucas himself, and his associates, made clear.
I want to believe you. Really, I do. Unfortunately, after his role in Edutopia and the brainwashing of kids into leftism, I suspect that whatever George Lucas intended did in fact get absorbed. It also doesn’t help that Ian McDiarmid implied around the time Revenge of the Sith was released that Lucas deliberately made Star Wars for kids specifically to indoctrinate them into his left-wing beliefs.
Besides, let me point out the situation with Metal Gear. In Metal Gear Solid 2, for example, we had a character named Solidus, who, although technically antagonistic, was nevertheless more of a proto-Tea Party type (the game was released in 2001, a decade before the Tea Party movement), and also looked up to his “father”, Big Boss. Big Boss in Snake Eater was also indicated to not be fond of Communism at all, even learning first hand some horrifying elements the Soviets did. But then we get to Peace Walker where Kojima for whatever reason decided to have Big Boss sing praises for Che Guevara. Didn’t matter that his work was released to the public, it still exposed Kojima’s true nature and tarnished the art in the process. You can see more of that on this tumblr post I made on the subject here which contains all of the above and more: https://otnesse.tumblr.com/post/649890953815113728/commentary-on-peace-walkers-lionization-of-che
