We are right behind the number of deaths from Spanish Flu with covid.
Also baby boomers are retiring.
Here in northern Michigan we have always had labor shortages. Occasionally, precovid, a fast food restaurant
would close with a sign out front “Closed. No workers”.
Its nothing new for us.

Statistics can be very misleading.
“Dropping out of the workforce” can just mean joining the gig economy or joining the black market.

Wages. Wages are not high enough so we have a shortage of labor.

Only rare mask requirements to none here in northern Michigan. No vax requirements.

"The governments are all paying low wage workers to stay home."
And employers are refusing to raise wages. A pox on both houses...

# 2. The bigger problem is in more skilled positions like truck drivers and skilled trades.
I have a friend in the elevator trade. There simply aren’t enough younger folk in the pipeline to make up for the older folks retiring. It is definitely a skilled job. You can’t just walk up off the street and fix an elevator or escalator. It literally takes years for a newbie to become useful.

Waiting tables, in the right place, used to be very lucrative with most of it never being reported.
Not the case anymore. Everything is corporate. Small stations, little cash transactions and those corporate places often stick their hands in your pockets making you tip out to everyone in the place (not just the bussers as was always customary)
It's a crap job but it was once made tolerable by sometimes very good $.

I think this is the reason the elites know we need mass immigration to get the bodies to do those jobs AT THE WAGES THE WANT TO PAY NOT THE FREE MARKET.
Fixed, We don't NEED more people.

It is my view that many of these gig jobs are not shown on any database as either jobs or employment.

As with so many other professions, once elevator repairmen cost too much the industry will find a way to bring foreigners in to do it for less.
I’ll believe low unemployment figures when wages rise for most people; otherwise its just a hoax.

Have wages risen in the area with 2% unemployment for skilled labor? That would be a real indication of a worker shortage.
I suspect many of our unskilled workers going forward will be imported Afghans and Haitians...

Yes, they have. My husband’s company is paying almost twice what they were from a year ago.

Why would an employer list a position vacancy when the position is filled by a gig?

When you can get $600 per week on unemployment why would you work? A 6 month vacation sounds good to a lot of people.

Covid fear porn is one factor and the Democrats giving $00 a week extra in unemployment benefits has convinced most people to stay home.
