Surely there are “real conservatives” who show up, state conservative positions that will never become a reality, and are contented with that. Modern conservatism was based on free market ideals that had little chance of becoming a reality. That’s what “real conservatism” was for every long time.
Maybe, although I think most except the hardened Libertarians like Friedman were pro-life, which before Trump was NEVER reined in.
