In this modern world of electronics, software, and hacking, you would think the US would have the capability in a short period of time to be able to overwrite software used to control our military vehicles and weapons. Lord knows we have the capability of doing that with our voting machines.
Reminds me of a 1984 episode of "Airwolf" where think it was String who got POed at Archangel for him giving weapons to potential enemies and Archangel replied back, "yeah, but we can disable them when we have to" by turning off the software to run them.

Most of the software can only be changed via manual loading. Also much of the software is proprietary (the US government does not own it).
