WWII veteran Tom Rice celebrated his birthday in epic fashion.
According to First Coast News, Rice wanted to do something a little extra special to celebrate his 100th birthday and that meant parachuting out of an airplane.
Rice, who jumped into Normandy on D-Day with the 101st Airborne, parachuted out of a vintage WWII plane and landed at the Coronado Hotel in San Diego over the weekend for his birthday. The WWII veteran is from San Diego and lived there when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, according to the same report.

Awesome!
That generation.
Something about that generation.
Damm, if we only had it now!
I used to go hang gliding with a guy in his late 70s. He flew on his own not tandem with someone else. He was a great guy. We shared ridge lift with him which means that you are constantly in close proximity with other hang gliders. He was an unpredictable holy terror who made contact with others frequently. Hang gliding in close proximity with others requires quick thinking and reactions. Fortunately none of these minor collisions resulted in serious injury or death. It was good to see this guy back in the air, but I was glad to see that he was taking a tandem parachute ride. He knows his limitations which is why he made it to 100.
The old guy I used to hang glide with about 30 years ago was an army doctor in WWII. He once rolled his truck off a logging road on his way up to the launch site with me and several other guys in the back. Fortunately he was belted in and all the harnesses and equipment in the back where I was padded us up a bit.
When the truck stopped rolling on a flat spot about a hundred feet below the place where we left the road it was upside down. We got out and he was fine but suspended by his seat belt. I saw him reach for the buckle and yelled “no”, but it was too late. The only serious injury out of about 6 of us was his neck which got strained from falling 6 inches onto his head. Some of the expensive hang gliders didn’t fare so well. If they get a ding in the tubing the entire tube needs to be replaced. It can cost a lot, but they did help to protect the canopy we were in and the roof of the truck.
100 and still a Madman , good for him
Awesome... a true Patriot !!
That generation for all their greatness had an unshakable belief and trust in the goodness and righteousness of government. Is that what we need more of today? What need are people with their moral character, work ethic, common sense and bravery tempered with the independent fervor and distrust of central government of our founders.
Wow. I am only 74 and, and; I am not going to jump again. Tip of the beret to this great man.
“That generation for all their greatness had an unshakable belief and trust in the goodness and righteousness of government. Is that what we need more of today.”
They had that trust because THAT generation would have NEVER voted for at least 75% of the idiots infesting government today!
While there may well have been cheating involved in electing the idiot president we have today, that hardly explains the morons elected to every other level of Government today.
