Remember how Gen. Sam Houston took revenge by kicking Santana’s ass a few weeks later at the Battle of San Jacinto? Apparently, Houston’s forces literally caught Santana’s forces napping (during a siesta).

Yeah, Santa Anna played a mean guitar!
It was at dawn, and the Yellow Rose was making sure Santa Anna stayed in bed. My uncle (4 times removed) fired the first shot. Like the Alamo, it was over very quickly. Santa Anna couldn’t escape because uncle and another man burned Vince’s bridge which crossed the high running Vince’s Bayou. Santa Anna was captured wearing the Yellow Rose’s dress. He was allowed to remove it, revealing his uniform, before his surrender to Houston. He did have his wooden leg on also.
(Caution, some of this is oral family history and details
may be at odds with other accounts.)
Here’s a link to the painting of the surrender in the Texas Capital:
Houston was wounded in the battle and sitting under the tree. Uncle is in buckskins listening with hand to his ear because he didn’t hear well at all.
It is in my blood.
