The issue was brought up in the context of needing splunk data from the County.

Typically there is a smaller local log kept on individual devices, but at the same time the local devices export the log entries to a fileserver for long-term storage. Splunk is an application that is used to search this more complete file, graph and chart the logs, and otherwise collate them for analysis.
