turned out it was because they were short of staff also.
We are tipping very well because the ones who are working are doing their very best. 30% or more.
True, but I knew that they’d likely call at a bad time. I just kept one earbud in place while I watched TV.
My daughter is flying Delta back home next saturday. She’s supposed to fly to Baltimore and without explanation they changed her return flight to Dulles in Washington, DC.
Fortunately her car isn’t sitting in Baltimore. My son is picking her up.
She can’t get through to anyone.
I'm not a McDonalds fan, though I do like their coffee. When I'm out and about and need some I'll stop there. The three that are in my normal "stomping grounds" are all drive-through only for the reason you cited above.
I read a study not too long ago about McDonalds getting 70% of their revenue through their drive-thru's. I imagine in the coming years we're going to see an increasing number of fast food places like Mc D's going "drive-through only" and minimizing their restaurant footprints to close the 30% gap in revenue.
Just a hunch ...
The company car of a guy I work with was in the shop for a few days. They couldn’t even find him a rental car period for about the same amount of time his car was being repaired.
Pretty much you’ll order online through your phone then drive and pick it up.
McDonalds has done that for quite a while already (even before the pandemic, IIRC) and my favorite Italian beef sammich place started doing it early on during the pandemic. It was their only way to survive I think.
I just think eventually it will be the only way to order.
GF wants to head to the Grand Canyon in October. Neither of us have been there. I've read about all the issues getting a rental car and one of the best vacation tips I read was "make sure your rental car is booked first."
BTW, has anyone else noticed that rental car companies are hanging onto their vehicles longer because it's too damn' expensive to replace them right now with the limited auto production related to the global chip shortage?
IT’s not that they’re hanging on to them, they sold most of their cars since no one was renting them, now, they can’t buy new ones because of the chip shortage.
The car advice is good. I’ve heard of some folks choosing destination based on car availability.
Order online & pay ahead of time. Show up at the drive-through window, show your receipt/QR Code showing you paid, get that scanned and get your order. Off you go, easy peasy. I agree, it looks like the future of fast food and probably a whole lot more too.
Wal-Mart, Meijers, Costco and others do it today too. Not that I want someone else picking out vegetables, fruit and meat for me but for boxed & canned staples? Shop online, pay online, drive up, show receipt/qr code, order#, groceries placed in trunk and off you go.
Be careful in MN though!
Amateurs. I was on hold, using a corded phone, with the I...R...S from 8 to 5 M-F for 6 freakin’ months before they admitted I had indeed signed my 1040.
Delta lost my carry on luggage in Paris earlier this week. Took them 2 days to deliver it to my hotel in Hungary.
It was carry on. I waited at the unloading ramp while they brought out all the strollers, but no backpack! They said it would catch up to me in Vienna, but no show!
I love flying — but despise the airline business. It’s been nothing but a downward spiral since 9/11.
So glad I’m at a point in my life where I don’t have to fly anymore.
Yep I try to tip big for those waiters that are choosing to work.
Many Chik Fil A’s still have dining rooms closed and only doing drive through. Probably takes less staff and able to serve almost as well.
I think National’s Emerald Club still works the way it did years ago when I used it often - make a reservation on line or by phone, go to the Emerald Club isle at the National section at the airport, pick any car in the Emerald Club isle(s), head to the exit with your drivers license and your Emerald Club card (which has your credit card and reservation data on it). Check your car in on return, and leave. I seldom saw the people at the rental counter; seldom needed to.
