Do not let the power company install a “smart” meter in your home or they will mess with your temperature of your home.
“For the Earth”
Addendum: to deal with fire issues arising from possible poor installations maybe these meters should be mounted on a pole away from the home?
They would have a hard time at my house. I set my summer temp to 80 degrees (that way outside temps are easier to handle when you have to go outside). In August when it’s humid I turn on a fan to move that 80 degrees around)
“Don’t let the power company install a “smart” meter”
Isn’t that an Elton John song?
We had no choice: we were told no “smart meter”, no power. Because now, they could do readings by driving by, instead of sending a meter reader to each house.
We told them we were not interested in the one-time 50 dollar credit for their “smart thermostats”.
This is the same utility that gives you a 50% surcharge on anything over 80% of the “average American household’s” electricity use.
Mind you, Rappahannnock Electrical Coop doesn’t generate any electricity, they just re-sell it , , , ,
that’s erf
I don’t know if you can stop them from installing a smart meter. I remember a few years ago there was a lady fighting the utility company to keep her analog meter, but don’t recall the outcome. I was looking at the Reliant Energy website recently and one of their plans included a “free” Nest Thermostat. I suspect that they hide their ability to manipulate your thermostat in the fine print of your contract. You will usually pay a big penalty if you quit your contract early. Those Nest thermostats also have a motion sensor, so they might adjust themselves to save energy whenever there is no activity detected.
This is unrelated to “smart meters” ... it’s about “smart thermostats”.
And ignorant customers.
It’s not the meters ... it’s the thermostats.
Most utilities incent their customer’s to sign up and have their thermostats cycled during hot periods but the customers are aware and can opt out up to 2-3 times if they have company or reason to NOT cycle it.
I don’t have a smart meter.
Comed (electric company) offers AC Cycling (requires a “direct load control” switch to be installed) or Peak Time Savings as options that come with a dollar reduction on the bill.
