I got a permit here in Michigan when they started “allowing” it, never renewed because i will not pay fpr a constitutional right.
As far as paying a Fee for a Permit, you aren’t paying for the Right to Carry, you are paying for the Right to stay out of Prison.

Even though I live in a Constitutional Carry State, I still got a Permit so I can Carry in any Reciprocal States when I travel.
A side benefit is I don’t have to go through a Background Check when I buy a Firearm, I just fill out a 4473, pay for my Purchase and head out the door, new Firearm(s) in hand.
